Why wait?
Why are you waiting to start your new fitness and health kick? You have decided 2019 is going to be your year, your going to improve your physical and mental health and well-being, its going to be great! Your thinking of what to get in terms of kit, where to go in terms of gyms all for 2 months time when the clock strikes 12 am on January 1st, that’s when it all becomes real!
Sound familiar to you? Now my question to you in mid-November is why wait? Why not jump all the queues and start your health-kick now? Are you going to eat, drink and be merry that badly? I know people make the excuse they are SO busy in the run-up to Christmas and I totally understand all the shopping that has to be done - I can relate having 3 children - but if your mind is already made up on changing your lifestyle for the best why not do it now?
I always find that once I’ve made up my mind it's best to do whatever I have decided on straight away, if not I tend to over-analyse things - which really infuriates my husband as it then makes me become extremely indecisive and this in-turn starts making me doubt whatever I had decided on originally! Isn’t it better to mull it over for a month or so, maybe draw up a list of the pros and cons of starting this health kick - I can tell you there will be more pros than cons IF your motivated - and then make that decision and set the ball in motion by contacting your nearest gym, PT if you want support and help along the way or start looking up programs on the internet. Whichever one of these you choose you will be proactive and start working towards what could be a positive life-changing experience!
I have talked before about how to tell if a client is mentally ready to start sessions with a PT and starting your regime before 2019 is on a par with this. It doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy Christmas, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to party with friends and family either so stop being so negative! If you start now it just means that the foundations for the habit you want to form will be stronger, meaning that the actual habit will harder to break if you hit a little blip in early 2019. You will already have 1 month under your belt, whether its 30 mins or an 1 hour of exercise 1-3 times a week that you start doing at the end of 2018 it will benefit you, your energy levels will increase, your sleep will get better, your self-confidence will grow and you will feel even more motivated for the start of 2019, knowing that you can feel a little more smug in the fact that you have taken that first step out of your comfort zone and it actual feels ok to keep coming out!
After all isn’t it better to start this journey when your excited about it? It's all very well saying yes I will do it in January but when Christmas is over, and all the excitement has gone away that comfort zone looks even more comfortable on a cold dark day in January! Taking that first step is difficult and I get that, but if you do it now even if you have Christmas week off you’ve still got 3 weeks under your belt! You’ll know what to expect in January, you’ve been on the gym floor (and it's not as intimidating as you thought), you’ve met your PT and they didn’t beast you like you worried they would (well not yet anyway)! Some of these points are ones that make individuals think about starting fitness but cry off at the last minute-so beware!
Please have a think about the above and all the reasons why you want to start and try and think of some GOOD reasons why you can’t start exercising now - there won’t be many I bet!
